About Us

The Austin Cen-Tex chapter of The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA), represents approximately 50 minorities in the fields of accounting, business, finance, and information technology. Our objective is to address the professional needs of our members and to help build leaders that shape the future of the accounting and finance profession.

The motto of NABA, “Lifting As We Climb”, is exemplified best in our mission, which addresses the professional needs of our members while developing and inspiring future leaders who will shape tomorrow’s accounting and finance professions.

Monthly chapter meetings are held virtually on the third Thursday at 7:00 PM Central Time, and please email president.austincntx@nabachapters.org for login details. In-person meetings will resume on the campus of Huston Tillotson University located at 1023 Springdale Road, Building 12, Austin TX 78721 in the Executive Conference Room from 7:00 - 8:00 PM CT.  For more information about upcoming meetings and events please see our Calendar for dates, times, and locations.

Local Chapter History

In 1986, ten individuals led by founding president Winsome Jean decided to continue the commitment of NABA in Austin by chartering the beginning of the Austin Cen-Tex Chapter. The commitment continued through the leadership of Debra Shaw, Michael Dunn, Shelby Jones-Starkes, Michael Harris, Suzon Holmes, Celia Thompkins, Maxine Buckles, Daphne Jimerson, Roger Davis, Teeyia Mercer, and to our president Sheri Marshall.

Programs supported by our local chapter professional and student member volunteers include: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA); Career Development Seminars; Technical Seminars; Accounting and Career Awareness Program (ACAP), Southwestern Region Student Conference (SWWRSC), and annual awards and student scholarship events.

The Austin Cen-Tex chapter is affiliated with the U.S. Western Region of NABA, Inc.
