Community Service

Holding true to NABA's motto of "Lifting As We Climb," community service is a vital component of the NABA Southern New England Westchester's success. Our chapter's objective is: (1) to provide outreach to the community through grassroots efforts and partnering with other community based organizations; (2) to increase attendance and membership participation by both professionals and students at community service events; and (3) to work with NABA sponsors to assist in providing volunteer opportunities for members. We seek to make our skills and competencies available to our immediate and surrounding communities. Programs associated with these initiatives include our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program or VITA program.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

NABA volunteers annually coordinate with the IRS to provide Income Tax preparation assistance to local community members of need. NABA set’s criteria to assist those with incomes below $50,000 who may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit but are not aware of the credit. NABA’s volunteers hold weekend sessions from February to April at area libraries to support the local communities. NABA Southern New England Westchester volunteers typically prepares returns at no charge.  Tax assistance is offered at numerous sites in Southern New England Westchester areas during tax filing season (generally February 1 through the middle of April). Training begins within the first two weeks of January.
