Community Service

Our Purpose
Holding true to NABA’s motto of “Lifting As We Climb”, community service is a vital component of our success. The Community Relations Committee engages the Chapter and community groups to prioritize charity and volunteerism activities. In addition, the committee is responsible for coordinating programs and events each fiscal year, including Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), offering members an opportunity to give back.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
The NABA, Inc. Philadelphia Chapter is calling for volunteers to assist in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. What is it? The VITA Program offers free tax help to low to moderate-income individuals (generally, $54,000 and below) who cannot prepare their own tax returns.
Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. How do I help? Please click here to contact us. For IRS information on VITA and Free Tax Return Preparation for Qualifying Taxpayers please click here.

Six Reasons Why You Should Volunteer with NABA’s VITA Program

  • Opportunity to Give Back - Directly or indirectly, we've all been supported in some way by citizens in our community. It is a privilege to give back.
  • Personal Development such as learning current tax rules and how to prepare various types of personal tax returns, learning to use state-of-the-art tax software, improved communication skills resulting from interaction with taxpayers, and improved time management skills.
  • Fellowship and Networking. We work hard, but also take time to socialize and have a little fun, including snacks and lunch on site. You’ll build new personal and business relationships and hear of new job opportunities from other volunteers you might not hear of otherwise.
  • Enhance Your Resume. Potential employers and managers looking to promote from within are impressed with VITA volunteers. They know that many of the skills needed to be an asset to their organization are the same skills you polish while participating in VITA.
  • Increased Self-Esteem from giving back to your community and helping people to file correct tax returns. You realize how valuable your knowledge and training is to others.
  • Satisfaction of helping those in need. We literally get hundreds of compliments and words of appreciation every tax season. There is no better reward.

What are our community objectives?
  • To provide outreach to the community through grassroots efforts and partnering with other community-based organizations.
  • To increase attendance and membership participation by both professionals and students at community service events.
  • To work with NABA Inc. sponsors to assist in providing volunteer opportunities for members.
  • To produce quality programming each fiscal year through the efforts of a strong Community Relations Committee.
