Community Service

NABA Chicago offers a variety of opportunities for members to positively impact the city through a variety of programs.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program :

Through NABA Chapters, volunteer your time for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). The VITA program offers free tax preparation and assistance to those with low-to-moderate incomes. You don’t need prior experience or be a tax expert or math wizard. All you need is the desire to help others – we’ll teach you the rest.

Six Reasons Why You Should Volunteer with NABA’s VITA Program

  • Opportunity to Give Back - Directly or indirectly, we've all been supported in some way by citizens in our community. It is a privilege to give back.
  • Personal Development such as learning current tax rules and how to prepare various types of personal tax returns, learning to use state-of-the-art tax software, improved communication skills resulting from interaction with taxpayers, and improved time management skills.
  • Fellowship and Networking. We work hard, but also take time to socialize and have a little fun, including snacks and lunch on site. You’ll build new personal and business relationships and hear of new job opportunities from other volunteers you might not hear of otherwise.
  • Enhance Your Resume. Potential employers and managers looking to promote from within are impressed with VITA volunteers. They know that many of the skills needed to be an asset to their organization are the same skills you polish while participating in VITA.
  • Increased Self-Esteem from giving back to your community and helping people to file correct tax returns. You realize how valuable your knowledge and training is to others.
  • Satisfaction of helping those in need. We literally get hundreds of compliments and words of appreciation every tax season. There is no better reward.

Fight2Feed

At NABA Chicago, we believe in the power of giving back and making a tangible difference in our communities. One of our newest community service partnerships is with Fight2Feed, a remarkable organization dedicated to eradicating hunger by rescuing surplus food and delivering it to those in need. Through this initiative, Fight2Feed not only combats food waste but also provides nutritious meals to the homeless and underserved populations across Chicago.

This year, we coordinated groups of NABA members to volunteer with Fight2Feed, coming together to prepare and distribute meals, assist with logistics, and support this vital mission. Our annual volunteer efforts are more than just a way to give back—they are an opportunity to connect with fellow NABA members, develop new skills, and directly impact the lives of our neighbors. See More about this years volunteer efforts.

Volunteering with Fight2Feed is a chance for NABA members to live out our values of leadership, service, and community. By dedicating a few hours of your time, you can help fight hunger, reduce food waste, and make a lasting difference in the lives of many.

Junior Achievement :

This year, NABA Chicago proudly partnered with Junior Achievement USA to bring essential financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and work readiness programs to local youth. Junior Achievement is a leading organization dedicated to preparing young people for success by providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in today’s economy.

Earlier this year, our NABA Chicago team volunteered at Martha M. Ruggles Elementary School and Clara Barton Elementary School. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we engaged students in interactive sessions designed to inspire and equip them with practical skills for their future careers.

Through our collaboration with Junior Achievement, we aim to empower the next generation by fostering a strong foundation in financial literacy and entrepreneurial thinking. We believe that by investing our time and expertise, we are helping to shape a brighter future for our community.

If you're passionate about making a difference and want to be part of initiatives like this, join us for our upcoming volunteer opportunities!
